Every Bar, Pub and Restaurant in Chester
Bars, pubs, restaurants and more. Explore what Chester has to offer and find your next favourite place.
This is the full list of the bars, pubs, restaurants, cafes, clubs and street-food traders we hold in Chester — the city centre, and the suburbs and villages around it. Independents and chains both, because a directory that quietly left out the chains would be answering a different question from the one most people are asking.
Narrow it with the type buttons, or use the tags to get at the things a type cannot express: a beer garden, a dog-friendly room, a pool table, live music, a Sunday roast. The name search takes a partial name if you already know where you are going. Sorting by Open Now uses the hours we hold for today, and Nearest asks your browser for a location and sorts by distance from it — it will not do anything until you allow that, and we never see where you are.
Every venue links through to its own page, which carries what we actually hold for it: opening hours, drink and food prices where they have been recorded, current offers, and how to get in touch. If you are comparing rather than browsing, the prices table is a faster way in when you want to know what a pint costs, and the deals page is the one to start from if the night is flexible and you are chasing value.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is listed on this page?
Every venue we hold for Chester that is open or announced — bars, pubs, restaurants, cafes, clubs and street-food traders, across the city centre and the surrounding suburbs and villages. Venues that have shut are hidden, and ones that have been announced but have not opened yet are shown with a Coming Soon badge so they are not mistaken for somewhere you can go tonight. We add places as we find them, so this is the fullest list we can stand behind rather than a claim to be exhaustive.
Which pubs and bars in Chester are open right now?
Sort by Open Now and the list reorders to put them first, using the hours we hold for today. One honest caveat: we do not hold hours for every venue, and where nobody has told us we say so rather than guessing — a venue showing no hours has not been recorded as closed, it simply has not been recorded. Hours also change for bank holidays and kitchens often stop serving before the bar does, so ring ahead if it matters.
How do I find venues in a particular part of Chester?
Two ways. Sorting by Nearest sorts by distance from wherever you are, once you allow your browser to share a location. Otherwise the tags carry the areas — Hoole, Handbridge, Upton, Blacon, Saltney and the rest — so you can filter to a suburb directly and get everything we hold there in one list.
What is the difference between a bar, a pub and a street-food trader here?
The type is about what the place is set up to be, not how good it is. A pub is a traditional drinking house, a bar is a later-opening drinks-led room, a restaurant is food-led with table service, a cafe is daytime and counter-led, a club is a late venue with a dance floor. Street food is the one worth explaining: it means a counter-service trader inside a shared eating area such as a market hall or food yard, with seating it shares with the other stalls rather than its own.
Are the opening hours and prices on here accurate?
They are as accurate as their source, and the sources differ. The best of them is the venue telling us directly; below that come a venue's own website, prices and menus recorded on a visit, and Google. We keep track of which is which and never let a weaker source overwrite a stronger one, so an owner-confirmed set of hours is not quietly replaced by a scrape. Prices move and menus change, though, so treat them as a good guide rather than a quote.
How do I get my venue listed, or fix something that is wrong?
Email hello@outinchester.com. Listing is free and always has been, and there is nothing to sign up for. The same address is the one to use if we have something wrong — hours, prices, an offer that has ended, or a venue that has closed. Corrections from the venue itself are the most valuable thing we get, and they are treated as more reliable than anything we could find on our own.
Run one of these places, or spotted something we've got wrong? Tell us at hello@outinchester.com — listing is free and corrections from the venue are the most useful thing we get.
